Picture Books With Teaching Resources


Picture books have an important role in every home and classroom.  The wonderful combination of visual and textual story that picture books offer is a valuable literacy experience.   Picture books are a great way of introducing themes or areas of study throughout the curriculum from preschool through to primary levels.  Check out these picture books.  They come with a large range of print ready follow-up experiences for children including worksheets, activities and craft.

Mother's Day Craft

Flower

Mother's Day Flower
What you need:
Egg carton
Paint
PVA glue
Pom Pom
Pipe Cleaners

What you do:

  1. Cut one section off the egg carton. This will form the flower.
  2. Paint both sides of the flower.  Let dry.
  3. Twist the pipe cleaner to form the stem and another one to form leaves.
  4. Push the pipe cleaner through the bottom of the flower and twist around to hold in place.
  5. Glue a pom pom in the centre of the flower.

Mother's Day Craft

What you need:
Paint
Scissors
Glue
Hands!

What you do:
  1. Paint the child's hand and make a number of hand prints.
  2. Once dry, cut the hand prints out (older children can do this themselves).
  3. Assemble into a Love Heart shape and glue them in place.
  4. Write a special message or poem in one of the hand prints.
This craft is great for a variety of ages.  

Sidewalk Chalk Art

1 Tablespoon flour
10 drops of food colouring
Half a cup of warm water

Place in spray bottle and shake.  Spray the concrete, pavers or even hang up a large piece of paper outdoors and watch the kids go nuts!  Always a favourite.
